The official release of Skype verion 2.5 became available as of today; download it here. Change Log.

New features:

  • Canadian Flag EmoticonCan stop Import Contact search at any time.
  • Flag Emoticons: no graphic to click for flag but rather enter "(flag:cc)" where "cc" is the two character country code. You need to include the brackets.
  • SMS API and a couple of other new API's
  • Lots of bug fixes

Still no right click menu item for PayPal. And they still need to address the "+1" issue for setting up SMS logisitics. When we will have waving flag emoticons? to give them "emotion"?!

I'm surprised that they didn't sort out the video problems before releasing this version. Many webcams that work fine with v2.0 just produce a blank screen or crash with v2.5

Really!!!! What complaints you Winders people have! You've had video for more than 6 months. Mac people haven't got a clue if and when or if not they will ever have video.

Jim,

In Skype v2.5 when you enter your phone number in My Profile you can select the country of the number using the flags, this eliminates the need for entering +1. I'm not sure if this is exactly the solution you were looking for but it takes away the need for you to know your country code.

Hey! the import from Outlook finally works. There was a previous post about the issues with this feature. Like the fact that it found 2X the actual contacts in Outlook, but didn't find anyone on Skype. This time it found the right number of contacts and found 100+ contacts on Skype.

Andre, my issue re +1 for mobile numbers relates to SMS messaging. As posted previously at the link above re this issue, if one does not enter the +1 (as is common for North Americans), then the SMS line is grayed out in the right click menu on their entries in the Skype client Contacts tab.

Lippy, if you read my posts re Skype for Mac, you will find that I am saying Skype for Mac cannot claim to support MacBooks until it supports video.
