1st impressions it looks to me like a moderate improvememnt from 1.4. Best bit about 2.0 is the contact groups, they are very usefull!
Havent had a chance to try the video with anyone yet so i cant comment on that.

This is all well and good, but it seems to me the real story right now is the issue many users seem to be having with their Skype accounts. Namely, many users have been locked out of their accounts, and for those who never supplied an email address when they first signed up for the account (in the early days, you didn't have to supply one) there is no way for Skype to get a new password to them. They are being told to create a new account -- which means, of course, losing everything (SkypeIn, SkypeOut, Skype user name) associated with their now-locked accounts.
I first became aware of this issue on the jkontherun blog where jk described being locked out of his Skype account after updating to the Skype 2.0 beta. After reading this, I tried to log in to my account and was told that "my user name or password" was invalid. Funny, but it worked the last time I logged on, and I changed nothing between sessions (I didn't even "upgrade").
I've done a search and it seems this has not become a firestorm, yet, but there is a growing chorus of similarly affected people showing up on the Skype forums.
Is this related to the security "non-breach" email that went out a few days ago? This seems to be when login complaints started showing up on the forums. Has Skype done something to its systems -- intentionally or unintentionally -- that has had adverse security implications?
Anybody? Buehler?
Or, am I just one of a very few people who is having bad luck right now? Since there is apparently no way for Skype to contact me, I may never know. Thank goodness I only had a few dollars left in my SkypeOut account. Still, money is money...

Does it support video conferencing - or is it just one to one?

Scott, The number of complaints appears to get higher and higher. I've not checked all the "accounts" i have yet with Skype. I will try and do it and see if any "latent" ones turn up the password problem.
Mike, It doesn't support video conferencing. That also doesn't appear likely short-term.

I said this when Google Talk came out, and I'm saying it again now: (Even if the quality is subpar, as you claim) YAY. I welcome Skype to join the ranks of the Video-enabled IM clients. When there is limited competition, there is less fire under innovating in, and perfecting, a given feature area. With a competitor like Skype now in the Video arena, it puts the pressure on Microsoft's higher-ups and other companies' to push hard toward a GREAT and INNOVATIVE user experience. This is something i look foward to (and am working hard toward) because just like the hair club for men guy: I'm not only a developer of voice and video features, i'm also a user :-)

And, why does Skype continue to ignore other avenues for real advances --- in audio, voice messaging, podcasting, archiving etc.?
