Word of warning, this is the TEST video engine, there is an optimised video engine which is 100x better than this in quality, speed and fluidity.
This will be enabled in future builds.

Hi all,
I am a regular reader of the Skype Journal which is one of my favourite web site.
Using Skype daily at work and at home I also need video.
I wanted to download the WigiWigi video application but it doesn't work, the web site is locked.
Kind regards
Yves

I too downloaded Wigiwigi and I enjoyed part of the testing experience. With Bill's notes it was easy to get it working. I can also see some business case models that are attractive.
Now the howevers. The quality of the video camera you use really matters. I have two. One has a fantastic lens (sony video camera) and the other classic webcam is old and tired. Poor webcams equal poor quality no doubt about it. The technology has shifted. You need to shift more pixels today.
I processed and tried my India test. If it works to India and one of their 650,000 broadband lines (that are cranky) it will work anywhere. It failed the India test regardless of the speed and quality settings that were tried. I also had a number of WW crashes. It's beta, I know. I don't mind, I think it would be a mistake to think it is ready for prime time.
For me this still requires "lots" of development. The engine has potential I can see that. The client is small, so maybe it has a mobile future. Of that I'm not sure. It certainly seems to be fast and that can be generated at a high speed with plenty of bandwidth and I presume computing power. Getting from here to market has a long way to go.
WW had an adequate voice engine in it.
BTW is this encrypted?
Finally if you want good video today with your Skype and you want it for free. Just use MSN 7.5. It's adequate.

A posting of the roadmap for Wigi
Posted by: Sanks at October 6, 2005 3:34 PM
MSN 7.5 video should be a lower bound for video based communication - not a benchmark.Wigi surpasses that by leaps and bounds, thats my personal opinion as I have used Wigi & MSN 7.5 with my buddies just to see the difference - and safely, Wigi in its current state is way way ahead.

Another thing - 650,000 broadband connections in India.....hmmm, thats a kind of revelation to me. It seems that I have been out of touch with such improvements in my home country lately.

Now look here you guys at Skype: Is there no end to the GENIUS you attract?
Wigi Wigi is just GREAT!
My business partner Noel and I live in two different towns. We had already completely deleted our
long distance phone costs with Skype. Now we can add the Karma of video. (It does mean however
that Noel will have to get out of his pyjamas in the morning and have a shave... )
Another huge advantage I see coming:
Using viral techniques I recently got a million hits on my website in the first month and have
sold over 350,000 copies of my Book. So now I am looking forward to the conference
version of WigiWigi so I can tell everyone how I did it - so they can too.
All the details are already in the free eBook at my website:
http://www.viralalchemy.com
But WigiWigi video will help me explain how it worked a lot more vividly.
We are sounding good with Skype, and now looking good, thanks to WigiWigi.
Get it ASAP - like the fax , Skype and hotmail, everyone else will soon too!

Hey Sanks!
Time to go home and get an update! (grin)
I did a Wigi call to India (Bombay) it worked fine!
I half agree with you on MSN 7.5.
I am glad the wigi community is showing up and contributing to this post.
WigiWigi is a very powerfull technology. Quality voice created a 4 billion dollar value play for Skype. Maybe a quality video play will surpass that. I believe it will. I do not think Skype values video. A bit dumb, but VisiCalc made the same mistake.
Thanks for you participation. Hacker too!
Regards, Bill

Wigi 1 has been released. This is a video that I captured today of me and Dave in a Wigi 1 call. I am in Newcastle Austtralia and Dave is in Toronto, Canada.
The pixelation of the video was caused by the conversion to a Quicktime file and was NOT produced by Wigi. The video and audio output, and the fluidity of the Wigi video is nothing short of exceptional.
For those that haven't expenced Wigi go and have a look:
Select 800, just below the video screen for a bigger picture.

Does Wigi only work if the other party has it installed?
Posted by: Danny at October 15, 2005 12:21 PM
The WigiWigi site is down again. Could someone please mirror a version of the latest download on their site so that all of us eager beavers could give it a try?

I cannot get it to work.. I downloaded Version 1 (when the wigiwigi website was up) then I passed it to my friend in Australia via Skype.. We both run it . We can send a "key" with 3 X cnt keys presses, and copy the key, but we both just get snow, then a timeout.
Is it because the the program needs to talk to wigiwigi.com & that site is down?
Frustrating indeed!
