Get rid of annoying pop ups from Skype

October 20, 2005 02:22 PM

Topics: Tips & Tricks

They are not really advertisements, but they are pretty close. I find them very annoying.

Here is one example:

Others are more pushy regarding buying of Skype's service.

Thank goodness they are not hard to get rid of... Skype user dantepippi posted the fix on the Forum here.

Just untick this box

I wish it was this easy in Yahoo.

I had the same thoughts some days ago: "pretty close to advertising!". Skype is stepping in a grey zone ... dangerous and dissapointing! :-(

Stop wingeing - its not that obtrusive and you can switch it off - at least its related to Skype unlike flashing adverts for bank services etc.

Adverts will follow like on MSN - the software development has to be paid for somehow and why should those using paid for services subsidise those who get Skype totally for free.

Hi Bill, it seems skype got video??!! I can see that from the above picture. Its nice!

Hey U!

You have astute eyes. Yes, as every one knows Skype is testing video!

I had three other heads up about this today!

Yes, I should have nulled it. But I screwed up.

Jean/Andrew,

As a Skype employee, I thought that I might clarify a point you made earlier:

>> Skype is stepping in a grey zone
>> adverts will follow

Skype is paid for by users who take advantage of premium services such as SkypeOut.

We use notifications to make it easier for people to use Skype and make them aware that Skype has additional functionality that they may not be aware of. Some of the services described in the notifications are free, and some are not.

This is not a change of policy, and we certainly have no intention of bombarding our users with advertising or compromising their privacy. As a business, we do raise revenue. However, there are different ways to do this, and Skype-to-Skype voice, video and instant messaging will always be free.

I got this ad today in my skype chat box. How do they get my skype ID, it's not published and I used a not well known email address which does not get SPAm yet to sign up.

IS this coming from Skype?
