Skype Investor?

Mark Evans writes a nice summary on Skype latest investment rumors which suggests Hutchinson Whampoa will take a 5% stake for a billion. (Update: Sorry folks - this was sloppy writing as pointed out in comments - suggested valuation a billion therefore.)

We can read between the lines and see real pressure on Skype to take another round and accelerate development. While 5% won't wrestle ownership control the VC's may gain some voting rights that enable control over who runs Skype in the future.

Stuart: "will take a 5% stake for a billion."

I guess all the reports we are seeing are saying that the valuation of Skype is about 1 billion (pre-money? post-money?), hence a 5% would have been paid about 50 million euros and not a billion.

Skype is supposed to have a total value of 20 billion EUR in total???

I never wanted to really put a number on it. It's probably not helpful. My billion term was sloppy writing. I'm quiting for the weekend now! Off to Napa!

Sorry, an old item was in my clipboard. I'm getting lazy. Wow, look at that Gips chart anyway! Really, my mistake.

Here's the Skype article denying the Hutchison deal:

It's a non-denial denial. The rumor was that the deal was finished. He denied that phrasing of the rumor. So the deal could be all-but-done or waiting for some condition to be met.

While I was in the wine country of Stellanbosch/Franschoek, South Africa last weekend I missed this one in realtime. But a billion, come on guys learn how to deal in what is known as reality. No one is going to invest in Skype based on a US$1 Billion valuation.

Lay off the wine, eh?

I know this is not a stock forum, but I was wondering if anyone here has been able to benefit financially from Skype' success? Since there was no way I was going to get my hands on Skype stock I did the next best thing. GIPS as you all know provide the voice codec/engine and has been recognized as a key player in SKYPES early success.

Has anyone else here bought GIPS stock? The stock has soared over the last year with no sign of slowing down.
