Using Skype Client as a Server Platform

A new white Paper was released today describing the development of an Skype-based SMS system entitled, Using Skype Client as a Server Platform.

This white paper is a must read for people who are developing Social Networking Systems, SMS, Skype Bots and Presence Management Systems. Actually every API Developer should read it. Understanding Skype in a Client Server Environment may hold many yet undiscovered applications.

The first Server-based application was designed by myself and used last year to power Skype Forum members Online Status in their signatures.

Julian Bond of Ecademy has just blogged a somewhat similar service for Ecademy Skype Users.

Julian describes his combo server approach this way, "my own desktop app written in delphi using the delphi api component...
That calls a web service app on Ecademy's server. that in turn checks the skype user name is known to Ecademy and then copies a pair of master GIFs. What I'm doing is seeding half a dozen copies around the membership. Ecah one does immediate updates for them and delayed updates for their contacts."

If you do use a Skype Client on a Server for broadcasting Skype Online Status (Presence) be sure you load test. Currently the number of contacts in the buddy list will affect performance. Last time I tested this results were unreliable or slow when contacts exceeded 75.

Good article but some of the words are cut off which I am assuming include some references. I think it is the size of the screen shot of the online status window that cuts off the words next to it, or....? It maybe a case of size matters.
thanks for the article
