I Want to Talk to You --- Signals

Martin Geddes provides a neat idea and wants a less interruptive communication system. Next time I'll send him a voice message! The objective is to send a message "I want to talk to you" with it's own signal. I'm pretty sure I've seen another IM system that has already done this. It effectively sent a highlighter to your buddylist. Thus I could quickly see who wanted to reconnect. Under the SkypeAPI it would then be connected to a contact management system which would provide the topic and follow-up context whenever the caller rang back.

I’d rather see is a little stack of names of people in the bottom right of my screen who want to talk to me. If they go offline, their entry fades out. Maybe the colour signifies the urgency of the request; a slowly draining sand timer icon indicates if this is a time-bound request. Telepocalypse

Interesting but that may be even more distracting I think, since aside from checking if you have received text messages etc from contacts you will also keep checking to see if people want to talk to you. In any case if you aren't available why not just have an answering machine setup? If you are set on unavailable your contacts will just leave you a text message...

Martin:

I find myself needing a couple of data points regularly that one of the clever folks doing Skype development may be able to streamline.
-For checking online contacts, perhaps passing over the icon in the XP tray would activate a baloon with a list. I am frequently away from my computer when a status change takes place and my headphones mute the alert.
-Nice-to-have would be the local time of the contact, or the time that is currently displayed on the contact's XP tray.

I am new to Skype, so forgive me for any redundancies in these requests.

Thanks!
