Skype Journal at One Month

Topics: General Notices

One month today! Thank you for your support, comments, trackbacks and help on developing the Skype Journal. We are enjoying it and getting a buzz from the rapid growth and learning curve we are on. So how are we doing? We had 5,461 hits yesterday served over 12,000 pages and now exceed 40,000 hits per day and 1,000,000 per month. I pulled this chart from Alexa. Is this good or bad? It's not big blog stuff yet. Still from our perspective it feels good, and the growth trend is up.

Our focus remains on building traffic keeping it interesting and reaching Skypers. Phil Wolff joined Bill and I during the month adding another perspective and we will be adding others.

We also get the inquires; "How does Skype Journal make money?

The answer is it doesn't at the moment and longer term for the founders is not sustainable. We see the investment short-term is worth the cost for:

  • Creating new opportunities; for consulting, research, product design and strategy work around the API, and in creating competitive roadmaps for the future. We believe we have a team of associates today that outside Skype itself know more than anyone. We also have some "project solutions " for call centers, enterprises, and directory sites avialable.

  • Developing an online platform that will grow future events for developers, manufacturers and services. We remain committed to thinking about the Skype community, the rights of Skypers, and how best to grow the total market around Skype. We believe the Skype API is a good first step and have invested considerable time in creating an SkypeAPI Programmers Guidebook (to be released shortly) that makes it easier to understand and prototype potential new solutions. We have ideas and requirements for a better platform, however are currently held back by resources. Let us know if you want to help.

  • Listening and talking. We want to understand what content is needed, where the gaps are and how we can better organize it for readability and searching. You know, tell us what you want to see more of and what we might stop doing. What things should we do better.

    Thanks again.
