DTMF Tones Failure

March 7, 2005 12:36 PM

Topics: feedback

Have you been using the Skype keypad to log into a conference call or get your voicemail? Depending on where you are imay or may not be working. This is not new, however it does need a fix. We see this an opportunity for Skype Journal to get out there and run a few tests plus capture some feedback from users. We'll test retrieving mail from mobile numbers, dialing in to free conference calls etc. It's simple enough. If we get failures we'll let you know.

Problems with DTMF tones relate to some of our SkypeOut termination providers. To effectively troubleshoot and identify issues we need to know approx time of call and number called (contry and county prefix is OK, no full number neccessary) for the cases when DTMF codes failed.

This is going through troubleshooting now, issue #11115, visible to closed betatesters.

Just a little problem guys,
just downloaded skype for the first time and seemed to have hit a hitch. on completion of download i attempted to access the program via the desktop shortcut, when i double click the icon, nothing happens. i've tried accessing via different routes, via the start button route, from program files in c: drive all with the same result. i have also deleted and re installed it about 7 times to no avail.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

GK.

Hello,

I have downloaded Skype and used it successfully. Then all of a sudden, it did not work. I de-installed it and re-installed it 10 times and it now will go through the entire process of loading and then will not connect once launched (the connection window will come up and stay there in perpetual motion but nothing happens). Pls. help!! Thank you!!

I can't dial my code for the AT&T telecon since the DTMF tones are not working from Bangalore India. What the hell is this. I really need this service. I tried a different telecon number, and that works. What the hell is this. If anyone has an answer, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I'm located in Toronto, Canada. Been using Skype for a while, on version 2.0.0.107, anyway the DTMF used to work fine for various things like voicemail (bell canada) as well as my work conference center call in thing. However lately, including today, this always fails.

DTMF tones do not work on the mac version at all, ever.

Located in Bangalore, India. A few weeks back, had no issues with DTMF. Been very problematic lately. If I try 5-10 times, it will work. But by then, I'm late for the meeting :(

Calling a US toll free number 8887823777. Also tried the toll number 7812925867, same result.

Skype 2.0.0.107.

i noticed that this was near the top of google results for skype dtmf issues.

i had the version listed above (2.0.x.xxx) and i experienced those same dial problems for about 6 months. i downloaded skype 2.5 today -- skype doesn't autodownload or find this new update, you have to go to skype.com to get it -- and the problem went away.

if you still have problems, use the dialpad on this site, while you are in a skype call, while holding your microphone up to your speakers:

My recommendation is that eBay rid themselves of Skype, as it is a toy rather than a professional tool. People can't enter post-dialing DTMF without holding their microphones up to the speakers? You have to be kidding! I have a worldwide team of professionals who purchased this solution mainly for conference calls that don't work without entering a PIN (which it NEVER does). And the rub is... we are about 50/50 Windows and Mac.
Run away from Skype until this is fixed!!! I would also recommend applying pressure on eBay to return any money invested until rectified. This is sophomoric for entities that profess to be professional. I think that the result speaks for itself (again, run away!!!).

I know it's not exactly a solution to this problem, but it's a workaround that works very well. I use a voipvoice uConnect (http://www.voipvoice.com/uconnect.html) to connect a standard ptsn telephone to my skype (I like cordless). When connected you can use the telephone keypad to generate the DTMF tones, and it works perfectly. I was having real trouble ringing my girlfirend's university extension number untill I got this.
