Skype Journal: New Skype Windows Version released today...
June 22, 2005 11:17 AMBesides the fresh new face lift to skype.com you can find a new Windows release Version: 1.3.0.51
The Change Log reports:
Not noted in the Change Log
The Connection Analysis Tool now reports cpu usage for both end points. The first listed is your computer, the second is for the remote client. Good information for troubleshooting.
I found several other bugs/irritants disappeared when I switched over. maybe you will too.
I would like to hear from users on dailup connections. Is this version working well for you?

They really need to learn how to properly launch things. They change the version number and modify the changelog, but their download link still points to .48. Same thing happened with .35.

No connection analysis tool pops up when I hold the cursor over the caller's avatar.

Hi Bill,
I hope that your message is not a joke. I don't see anything in your http://www.skypejournal.com/blog/archives/2005/06/sorting_out_sky_1.php
showing me how I could activate the Connection Analysis Tool!

Thank you Bill, I have activated with success the Connection Analysis Tool.
It might be helpful for other Skypers who are intersted in activating this cool tool, so I repeat the instructions:
1. Close the Skype application.
2. Open WordPad (Start Menu : Programs : Accessories).
3. Open with WordPad the config.xml file in the following path:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourcomputername\Application Data\Skype\yourskypeusername
(and don't forget to select "All Documents" as file type other wise you will not see the config.xml file).
4. Use the FIND command in the Edit drop down menu to locate the entry, "DisplayCallInfo".
5. Change the data field from "0" to "1" and click "save" in the editor to save this change.
6. Reboot Skype. Make a test call to a buddy or echo123 or echo-chinese.

You can find Confix.xml at:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourwindowsusername\Application Data\Skype directory.
To find this folder you must set your Folder Options to Show Hidden Files or Folders. To do this, open any folder, Select Tools Tab, Select Folder Options, Select View, under the folder icon select the radio button, Show Hidden file and Folders.
Ensure SKYPE is quitted first (quit via green icon in tasc bar) because you can not update SKYPE while its running.

I'm using Skype on dialup from Saudi Arabia at the moment and it works great! Haven't noticed a significant improvement from the previous version but the clarity of the calls using Skype kicks the pants off net2phone or any other softphone VoIP service I've used before. Just waiting to get broadband and then get hooked up with the eagerly anticipated Skype phone!
