Skype Journal: Drag and Drop
May 25, 2005 06:42 PMA simple little tip. Skype likes slipping in new features and this one could have been there forever. It will be on some release notes. Still it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I learned you could "drag n drop" files into an open chat windown and that would auto-magically activate the send file transfer. Simple as that and much quicker if the folder is already open.

Try also:
* dragging contacts from chat to contactlist
* drag contacts from contactlist to chat
* drag contacts from one chat to another

That's the way I sent you the USB Skype phone information while we chatted on the chat window. :)

Thanks! Sometimes it is surprisingly difficult to learn new behaviors. Old systems train us in certain ways. Now I try to drag and drop everything. So what I want next is the send file to be part of the chat message record! Incorporate the sending in the chat window.
Thanks

That would be awful Stuart. It would be like simulating MSN or Yahoo. A lot of people like myself use FT during a call not a chat. And I hate it if a chat window would pop up just to send a file! Keeping the communication methods (call, chat, ft, etc) separate makes Skype so great. In every other messenger they are cramped together in the chat window. :(

The little emoticons are nice but I woud like to be able to drop a pic in the middle of my own chosing. Not a file but a pcture. I trid saving to the emoticons but that did not work.
