Skype Journal: Ineen Upside Not Enough

April 11, 2005 10:14 PM

What happens when Podcasts become Vlogs? It's great to see Erik Lagerway showing the potential for next generation video communications software by using his latest at Ineen to go Vlogging. This is the positive angle I'm prepared to put on my recent Ineen experiments. I received a comment the other day asking if we were testing any Skype competitors. I try and test them all and have to answer yes. Including MSN 7.0 which does deserve a separate post. On Ineen I'm just going to leave my thoughts up to Geek blog below. If you need any more insights see this post too. Ineen demonstrates potential, it is just failing the customer test.

Here is a crash course on how to use ineen to create your own vlog clips. The clip is quite lame, the opening frame has me looking like I just dropped a log in my pants ;) I created an AVI clip... SIPthat.com
It is supposed to be compatible with most other SIP phone providors - although you cannot use their software with a pre-registered SIP number, you must use one of Ineens own numbers. I tried calling several numbers on the sipphone network but couldn’t get through. Part of the reason could be that there is no direct dial numbers between networks. Geek blog

Just set the record straight, ineen was never intended to replace Skype or be a "Skype killer" as it has been recently labeled. ineen is simply an experiment that allows our potential customers to play with just some of the features that can be enabled via our eyeBeam SDK. Anyone who has had the opportunity to play with the eyeBeam SDK will know it is capable of much more. With this being said, it's certainly interesting to see ineen being compared to a client that has been downloaded more than 100 million times. ;)
