Skype Journal: Multi-Party Video Conferencing...
April 9, 2005 11:22 AMI got lucky. I tested the new SkypeSee multi-party video conferencing beta this morning. At times we had eight parties in the test session. Four of us were talking on Skype. Pic size was 8 cm by 11 cm. CPU utiliztion was 44 percent.
Beta? Well that is what Adsod, the developer in Austraila, called it. Alpha would have been a more appropriate term. :) :)
About 50 percent of our time was spent with quite good quality. Two of the participants thought this was better than Sight-Speed testing they had carried out.
Participants were world-wide: Iceland, Sweden, US, Austraila, Canada.
There seems to be a real deep hunger for video in Skypeland.

Absoutely. Video is going to be the next "black". Still, the webcams have to improve some. I own a creative one and it is a pain to configure, since it is handled as a TWAIN device...
I'd love to use Skype with native video. Having to run another application in addition to what I already have running is not a good idea...

I am just curious, no one was using headphones to talk? :)

Hey JP!
Very observant.
Acually, in this beta release audio did not work. Some of us were on Skype Multi Chat. Later we were in a Skype Conference Call.
Thanks for your participation.

Well Bill you must have struck lucky because I have not had a clear picture since multi-party video conferencing came out for testing. My picture keeps locking up after about 1 minutes and it is almost impossible to see that it is me most of the time. I think this part of the program has gone backwards not forwards, considering when it was just 1 on 1 video I was receiving and sending an almost perfect picture every time.
I know Ashod still has a long way to go yet but I think he should have consentrated on getting 1 on 1 audio/video right first before thinking about multi video.
