Skype Journal: Toggle Audio on the Mac
March 29, 2005 06:57 PMCan a Mac user confirm this works and the quality of the program?
Toggle Sound Output 0.2b
Freeware | 3.28.05 | Script #2123
Author: Johan van Oostrum | Developer's Web Site
Release Notes:This script toggles between two sound outputs. e.g. the standard speakers and a headset.
It is a simple script that comes handy if you use a headset for a VOIP service like Skype. For use with languages other than Dutch or English you have to slightly modify the script.

Why not just use SoundSource from RogueAmoeba, which lets you select the source for input, output and even where you want the system sounds to go... all from your menu bar.
BTW - It's quite simple to just open the prefs and select your audio device at will (Command+,) gets you there and Skype seems to recall the last pref panel you were in, so you can keep it there and activate a headset from the system default if you like.

I'm not sure how this would change anything. OS X automatically toggles between a headset and the speakers when you plugin or unplug headphones. Skype also takes advantage of this and does the same automatically.
Kind regards

Richard,
I took this to be a small app that enabled you to switch quickly from one output system eg Speakers to another eg USB headset when they were both plugged in. Thus I presumed you could hear your mac ringing on speakers and then toggle to headset as you picked up and answered the call. I may have to buy a Mac. Alternatively, we need someone with a Mac writing about skype - mac things.

you don't need any of these additions - I've set skype to use my griffin imic for audio in and out (I've got a little mobile phone earpiece/mic thingy attached to that) and the system audio set to use the regular speaker port. When a call goes out or comes in, I can hear the ringing through the earpiece AND the speakers (lush), but once the conversation starts, all sound is channeled through the USB. Skype seems to have done all the work for us. The sweet thing is open the systems prefs/sound pref pane, and set the volume for the different ports independently (the earpiece is a bit weak on sound, so that, and the mic input values are set quite high) so that you have the audio levels just how you want them. No extra software needed. As I mentioned, my earpiece is quite crappy - I have a USB mic/monaural phone headset, which is better quality, but not as convenient as plugging in the earpiece. Your mileage may vary.
Hope this is of help
cheers and greets to OSX users (tiger, by the way, is sweeeeeet - big performance gain, like a new upgraded comp!)

A script to change the audio directly in the Skype preferences (not the system) would be very useful to me as I do have different usb devices plugged (including a cordless phone). Sometimes I don't have the cordless phone handy and i just want to pick up the skype call from my USB headphones.
